Daniel Bruce Update March 2, 2026

The shadows stretched across the hall, Where silence met a planned-for guest; A doorway quiet, a vacant chair, The heart put to a sudden test. The path to peace through ...silver manes Was paused beneath an empty sky, While fever hummed a restless tune As weary, wakeful hours went by. The rhythm of the week had frayed, In tangled webs of "not quite yet," With aches that lingered in the dark And goals that remained unmet. But through the fog of heavy days, A single question cleared the air— A bridge of hope and chosen kin, A simple, brave, and quiet prayer. Across the board where kings reside, A different kind of move was made, Not for a win or tactical pride, But for a bond that will not fade. With open arms and words of grace, The mentor took a sacred part, Filling the empty, quiet space With the title of a grandfather's heart. The storm has broke, the fever's gone, The "yes" still echoes, bright and deep; Now joy awakens with the dawn, While all the former sorrows sleep. The ordinary returns to view, But flavored now with something grand— A future bright and built anew, By the gentle guiding of a hand. Dear Alex, I wanted to reach out and share how much your "Yes" meant to us. The past week brought its fair share of hurdles—from missed visits and canceled therapy to a stubborn bout of the flu—but the highlight by far was the moment you accepted the invitation to be a "Grandpa" in such a meaningful way. Your willingness to go beyond mentorship and embrace this kind of family bond is a gift. It has turned a difficult stretch of days into a time of real celebration and joy. We are so incredibly grateful to have you in our lives and are looking forward to all the memories ahead. With deep appreciation, Daniel and Patti

This past week hasn't just been good—it’s been a whirlwind of successes and wonderful surprises! We are absolutely beaming with pride over everything that’s been happening. We witnessed a huge ...milestone—he actually was able to trot quickly for the very first time! It was such a beautiful, fleeting moment of progress that (of course!) happened right when the video camera wasn't rolling. But the memory of seeing that speed is better than any recording! He powered through two full days of State Run testing at school. He came out of it feeling confident and thinks he did a fantastic job. We love seeing that academic "can-do" spirit! On the chessboard, he faced off against our dear friend, Alex. It was a masterclass in strategy—Daniel Bruce walked away with one big win and one hard-fought tie! To top it all off, he shared his gift with the community by lifting his voice with the Spanish Choir. There is truly nothing like hearing that music. To everyone who follows these updates: Your encouragement means the world. Thank you for being such a supportive village for Daniel Bruce. If you see him around, be sure to give him a high-five for his incredible week!
